Pandektes raises €13.5M in Series A funding

Today, we’re announcing a €13.5 million Series A led by Alstin Capital, with participation from PROfounders, Scale Capital and our existing investors.

It is an important milestone for Pandektes, but more importantly, it gives us the opportunity to go much further in building something we believe should exist: a new infrastructure for the world’s legal information.

Less than two years after launch, more than 500 law firms, companies and public institutions use Pandektes. Around two-thirds of organizations that test the platform become customers, and increasingly, customers are replacing legal research platforms they have relied on for decades.

Not long ago, that seemed almost impossible. We think this is only the beginning.

Legal information needs a better foundation

For decades, legal research has followed the same basic model. Every country developed its own databases and, over time, a small number of providers became the default gateways through which lawyers, companies and public institutions accessed the law.

Yet much of the underlying information was public all along. Legislation is public, court decisions are often public, and administrative and regulatory material is frequently public too.

The challenge was never owning the information but rather collecting millions of documents from thousands of sources, keeping them current, understanding how they relate to one another and turning them into something legal professionals could actually rely on.

Historically, that required enormous editorial organizations and decades of accumulated infrastructure. The result was a market with very high barriers to entry, high switching costs and little pressure to change. Incumbent products became so embedded that they are specified by name in public procurement processes.

What was impossible is becoming possible

AI and modern computing now have fundamentally changed what can be done with legal information. Work that once required enormous amounts of repetitive manual effort can increasingly be handled continuously by technology: collecting new sources, classifying documents, tracking amendments, understanding references, connecting decisions and analyzing information at scale.

That does not make legal expertise less important. It makes it possible to use that expertise where it matters most. Machines can handle more of the repetitive work required to maintain legal information, while people can focus on judgment, interpretation and quality. That idea has shaped Pandektes from the beginning.

From legal research to legal infrastructure

Replacing legacy research platforms is an important part of what we are building, but it is not the destination.

AI will create thousands of new products for the legal world. Some will be built by technology companies, while others will be built inside law firms, courts, ministries and companies themselves. No single company will build every system the legal industry needs.

But all of those systems face the same fundamental problem: they need access to trustworthy legal information.

An AI system for lawyers is only as good as the information underneath it. If the data is incomplete, outdated, poorly structured or disconnected from its original source, a better interface or a more capable model will not solve the problem.

We believe the next generation of legal technology therefore needs a new data layer beneath it: legal information structured consistently across jurisdictions, continuously updated, connected to its original sources and built from the ground up for AI agents and other machine systems.

That is what we want Pandektes to become.

That is why we are opening more of Pandektes through our API. Instead of every company rebuilding the legal data layer from scratch, they just access a reliable data infrastructure and focus their energy on the products, workflows and experiences they uniquely want to create.

Building what comes next

When we started Pandektes, we were told repeatedly that legal research was a market that could not really be changed. The incumbents were too established, the data was too difficult to recreate and legal professionals would never switch. Today, with more than 500 organizations already using Pandektes, we are confident that something much bigger is possible.

We are grateful to every customer who trusted us early, every person who challenged us, everyone who joined the team and every investor who believed this infrastructure could be rebuilt from the ground up.

There is still an enormous amount to do. Ultimately, we want the systems through which society understands and applies the law to become more open, more capable and more accessible.

We’re just getting started.
